Why Does ITEC Exist?
We desire to focus on sustainability rather than creating dependency. There are very few organizations that have doctors, nurses, dentists, engineers, videographers, pilots, storytellers, and a diverse group of volunteers that show up for work every day. That may be why visitors to ITEC are both amazed and sometimes confused how all of these pieces of the puzzle fit together. Some of you know ITEC through of our founder, Steve Saint, and the Saint family story. Others have come to know us through innovations like the Maverick, autonomous UAVs, or a Portable Dental Chair. Generally, though, there is a great deal of confusion on what we actually do and why we do it. Tour groups that come through ITEC seem to have an 'ah hah' moment when they realize that our diverse staff and multitude of projects all have a single, unified purpose. We work to develop tools, technology, and training programs that equip local Christ-followers around the world with skills that open new doors for them to share Jesus. This clip of Steve speaking comes from episode 13 of Journey into the Amazon. He essentially lays out the 'why' of ITEC and builds the foundation for getting a better grasp on what we do.
Why do we focus on training?
We desire to focus on sustainability rather than creating dependency. We have seen that training is an approach doesn't harm culture or perpetuate dependency. Rather, it builds up indigenous Christ-followers with an additional tool to share the love of Christ within their own community. We are so thankful you are a part of the extended ITEC family!
