Where Missions Should be Done | Thought from Steve Saint

Acts 1:8 "You are going to be my witnesses here in Jerusalem and in Judea and in Samaria and to the ends of the earth."

Hi, I'm Steve Saint with a thought for you on where missions should be done.

Now, I have always thought that missions was where one group of people sends somebody to another group of people to share the gospel so that the church will form. And I still think that's the case.

When we share the Gospel here at home that's evangelism.

In Acts 1:8, Jesus said to his disciples, "You are going to be my witnesses here in Jerusalem and in Judea and in Samaria and to the ends of the earth."

Now, he didn't say, "In Jerusalem first and then in Judea and then in Samaria."

But, in Luke 24:47, Jesus did say they were supposed to start right there in Jerusalem, right where they were.

I think that is the safe way to do missions. People really shouldn't be going to the ends of the earth to try to be a missionary, unless they can be part of a the effort to share the gospel at home first.

If they can't or won't do it here, and they can't do it near, then we shouldn't send them way out there. Chances are too high they won't be effective.

But, neither should everyone who is effective here, be sent to the ends of the earth.

Some people should stay doing it right here, and some people should be doing it near, and some people should be doing it way out there.

Our commission from Christ is to take His good news, that's that Christ traded heaven for earth so we could trade earth for heaven, and make that offer to everybody everywhere, so that nobody goes to hell without choosing to do it and without knowing there is an alternative.

That's my thought for today.
