Thought From Steve Saint - Evangelism

"I'll bet nobody reads those old tracts any more."

Hi, I'm Steve Saint with a thought for you on evangelism.

In the New Testament, it says that one of the spiritual gifts that we're given is evangelism or that we are evangelist.

When I was a kid in Ecuador, we used to practice evangelism in an unusual way. We would take these Spanish tracts that talked about God's love and about the gospel and usually included a little story of somebody's life; and as we would drive along, we would throw a bunch of tracts out the window as we would go through towns. Everybody wanted something to read down there in Ecuador. We had to be careful though where we dropped the tracts because if there was a car coming behind us well when the kids ran after the tracts, they were likely to get run over.

I thought I t was kind of a cheap way really to share the gospel. But, you know what? I saw an old tract one day maybe 20 years later and made a comment about it like, "I'll bet nobody reads those old tracts anymore."

The man I was with said, "Oh yes they do!" And then he told me, "I was on a long bus ride, and I saw a tract lying on the seat next to me. I picked it up, and I read it." He said, "For the first time in my life the gospel made sense to me. And it was through that old tract on a bus seat that I decided that I was going to accept Jesus as my Savior. It changed my whole life."

Wow. A tract? In a Greyhound bus? And that was the reason this man came to faith in Christ. I guess any of us can be evangelists if we can hand out a tract.
