Mechanical and Dental Trainings in Central Africa

In April, the ITEC mechanical and dental teams traveled to a predominantly muslim country. Every trip has its challenges, but this one was particularly complex. Our team delayed the trip for several months to accommodate the partner’s preparation needs and had great difficulty in obtaining visas for entry into the country. Logistical hurdles, including flight delays and missing baggage containing vital training materials also affected our team. Amidst the challenges, the Lord was undeniably with our team, and none of this was a surprise to Him. By God’s grace and protection, our teams arrived safely in country with the essentials needed to train.

We were joined by a new mechanical assistant from Florida, and two training graduates from West Africa serving as assistant trainers in the mechanical and dental trainings. We were also grateful for the ongoing assistance of Dr. Edith from West Africa whose expertise in dental care was an added blessing.

Both the mechanical and dental teams conducted their trainings at a local school. However, a unique situation arose for the dental team—they were asked to do the tooth extractions at the residence of the area chief, who is a Muslim. The chief had granted approval for our trainings in his community, and our team worked diligently to preserve a  healthy relationship between the Christ followers being trained and our host.

Each trainee was truly dedicated to the cause of sharing the Gospel to people their communities, where there has historically been resistance to embracing Jesus as the only Messiah sent by God. Their passion and desire to learn new skills to help open the door for them to share the Gospel was both humbling and inspiring to our teams. Each trainee graduated from either mechanical or dental trainings, and we are excited to see how God uses them to build His kingdom in a spiritually deprived corner of the world!
