Inside Out Faith
In a world that often values appearances and wealth over substance and spiritual matters, it’s easy to be deceived by what looks good on the outside. But just like motorbike can be broken on the inside, people, too, can look put-together while hiding deep spiritual emptiness. On a recent mechanical, medical, and farm training trip to East Africa, one of the mechanical trainees shared his thoughts about how he can use training to share the Gospel.
“Jesus sees our inside, and that's what you want. He doesn't want our outside. If our heart is pure, then it's right with Jesus. It is the same with the things inside of the machine. We need the pure petrol, not the petrol mixed with water. If the air filter is dirty inside, you cannot run the machine. So all of these things reflect our life. How do we need to live in in the eyes of the Lord? It's not about how we look outside. It's about what is inside of us.
So that's why we need to have Jesus inside of us, because He is pure. We want to help people, and when they come out, we want to tell them about Him. When we talk to them about the bike, we show them what is wrong. Then we reflect to them that it's the same way God is looking at you. Are you clean inside?"
This simple yet profound insight reminds us that the work being done through training is about more than just fixing machines, offering medical care, or farming instruction—it’s about sharing the Gospel. As trainees learn valuable skills, they’re also learning how to use those skills as tools to share the hope of Jesus with their communities. In every repaired bike, blood pressure taken, or crop planted, there's an opportunity to share the Gospel.
